Qualifications:

Required:

  • NATA BOC certification in good standing,

  • NJ Board of Medical Examiners Athletic Training License, or eligible,

  • Active AHA BLS CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer,

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record,

  • Experience managing multiple tasks while working proficiently under pressure,

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with efficiency and effectiveness,

  • Ability to meet the extensive time commitments required for an NCAA Division I athletic program, including non-traditional working hours, holidays, evenings, and weekends; Travel is required,

  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality and discretion in managing athlete health information,

  • Requires ability to routinely lift equipment and supplies, up to 50 pounds, from ground and assist with ambulation of injured individuals,

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in athletic training or related healthcare field,

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the collegiate or professional athletic setting,

  • Professional experience as an Athletic Trainer working with elite basketball at the collegiate, professional, or international level

  • Advanced or terminal degree in Athletic Training or related field.

  • Blood Flow Restriction training/proficiency

Essential Functions:

  • Provide athletic training services for the University s athletic department.

  • Attend scheduled team practices and competitions, home and away.

  • Manage the comprehensive health-related needs of the assigned team roster(s) through professional interaction and patient-centered approach.

  • Provide first aid and emergency medical care to athletes through accepted medical standards.

  • Develop and/or implement procedures and routines for attending to and dealing with minor day to day injuries (i.e., modalities, taping, bracing, padding) of athletes.

  • Provide rehabilitative services for athletes, under the direction of team physicians and in coordination with staff physical therapist. Provide reports when requested.

  • Assist with coordination of physician medical coverage for athletic competitions.

  • Assist with coordination of transportation for athlete health and wellness appointments on and off campus.

  • Within the bounds of confidentiality and other related matters of propriety, make sure that relevant information is set forth and presented to coaches, academic support, sports health personnel and other health service providers, as well as to athletes and their family members in a clear, concise, and cogent format.

  • Work in conjunction with athletic department staff regarding athlete needs in the areas of strength, conditioning, and flexibility, nutrition, nutritional supplementation, hydration, injury prevention, exercise technique, and rehabilitation of injury.

  • Work in conjunction with the equipment room staff regarding the safety of the athletic equipment, testing new equipment, to aid in the purchase of shoes and protective equipment, and to facilitate proper methods of fitting athletic equipment.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Rutgers Athletics Academic Support staff to ensure active and dynamic communication between healthcare providers and academic personnel regarding athletes academic accommodations and restrictions in accordance with department and procedures.

  • Educate athletes and staff on injury prevention strategies through a variety of mechanisms.

  • Familiarize with and abide by the policies and procedures of the RWJBarnabas Health Sports Health Department, Rutgers Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and Rutgers University.

  • Assist with the compilation, input, organization, and maintenance of accurate and valid medical records regarding university athletes.

  • Assist with verification and maintenance of athlete health insurance information, primary health insurance pre-authorization for services, and submission of Athletic Injury Claim Forms for athletes.

  • Assist in development, maintenance, staff awareness, and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.

  • Maintain supply inventory within the Athletic Training Facility and address procurement needs per departmental procedures.

  • Assist with the drug testing program for Rutgers Athletics, as directed

  • Assist in coordination of, and/or attend, departmental meetings.

  • Commit to professional development through a planned schedule of continued medical educational courses, programs, and seminars, as recommended and approved by employee s supervisor.

  • Maintain certification and license requirements of the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and the State of New Jersey, in addition to AED/CPR Certification for the healthcare provider.

  • Represent the department at university, national and professional level conferences as approved by the Director of Athletic Training and Chief Medical Officer.

  • Participate in special projects initiated by the Director of Athletic Training, direct supervisor, or Chief Medical Officer, or through own creativity and innovation.

  • Meet with supervisor on a regularly scheduled basis to review professional progress and related matters.
