1.0 FTE, full time, Muskegon Community College

Position Title: Licensed Athletic Trainer

  • Position will support Muskegon Community College

  • Full Time, 40 hrs a week

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, provide Athletic Training services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician and in accordance with State of Michigan Athletic Training Practice Act.

What the Licensed Athletic Trainer will need:

  • Current State of Michigan Athletic Trainer License required.

  • Analytical ability necessary to evaluate patient condition, design exercise and treatment plan, assess patient progress and make appropriate alterations to training plans.

  • Interpersonal ability necessary to effectively interact with patients in sensitive situations explaining treatment purpose and procedure, function and purpose of equipment, and so forth.

  • Ability to instruct patients and interact with allied health personnel. Ability to effectively represent clinic services to potential clients.

  • Physical ability to lift, support, position and manually exercise patients.

  • Ability to effectively write about Sports Medicine topics in hospital and community newspapers and high school news letters.

What the Licensed Athletic Trainer will do:

  • Evaluates patients functional abilities/disabilities, range of motion, strength, coordination, etc. through assessment and testing procedures. Establishes functional baseline to be used throughout treatment as a gauge of progress and physical improvements. Incorporates physicians' and (when appropriate) other healthcare professionals information and recommendations into evaluation.

  • In accordance with assessment, establishes an individual exercise or physical enhancement plan which specifies a) treatment goals, and b) the treatment modalities that will assist the patient to regain function, increase strength, and increase coordination; modifies treatment plans in accordance with patient's response and condition changes.
