Henry Schein Corporate Communications Summer Intern in Melville, New York

JOB OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks/projects that address the needs of the Corporate Communications department. The assignments are related to the academic major and the degree of the Intern. The assignments may include conducting research. As possible, a reasonable balance will be made between the intern's learning goals and the specific assignments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Corporate Media Relations

  • Write and post feature articles for MySchein, the company's intranet

  • Write and edit Team Schein stories

  • Provide general support for the team's media relations efforts across our business units, Henry Schein Cares, and Corporate.

  • Write media advisories, photo captions, press releases

  • Create media lists; manage editorial calendars; research pitching opportunities

  • Distribute releases and pitch stories to local media markets

Media monitoring/Daily clips

  • Prepare Google translations for International clips

  • Prepare clips and featured article for posting to the Henry Schein Media Center

  • Monitor for coverage during the day; generally do a Google search at the end of the day in case anything comes up.

  • Check Newsday and LIBN print and online; circulate any clips

  • Prepare prints and PDFs for Monthly Clip Book

  • General administrative assistance, as needed to help Department assistants

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Good planning/organizational skills and techniques.

  • Good analysis and problem solving skills. Self-starter in creating issue resolution

  • Good writing and communication skills.

  • Good decision making skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

  • Direction from manager/director is needed on some complex issues.

  • Some professional experience making and fielding calls with stakeholders.

GENERAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • General understanding and knowledge of public relations activities from either a prior internship with an agency or corporate setting.

  • Experience developing PR tactics in B2B environment.

  • Willingness to learn PR platforms such as Meltwater, Muck Rack, and Business Wire.

  • Good project management skills.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Prior internship focused on the areas of communications, public relations, digital media, or comparable marketing communications function.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree, or candidate for Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications, marketing or a related discipline.

TRAVEL / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Travel typically less than 10%. Remote (if local, in-person team meetings on Tuesdays). No special physical demands required.

The posted hourly rate for this internship position is based on both your educationand location.

Candidates possessing up to and including a high school diploma can receive either $15 or $16/hr depending on location.

Candidates currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or equivalent can receive either $18 or $20/hr depending on location.

Candidates possessing a bachelor's degree or equivalent and currentlypursuing an advanced, post-graduate degree (i.e., MS, MBA, JD, etc.) can receive either $22 or $24/hr depending on location.
