**Applications are being accepted for a full-time Packer Operator II for the City of Las Vegas Solid Waste Division of the Utilities Department.

Entry Level: $14.42

Nature of Job: The work involves heavy manual labor in the collection of garbage, refuse and trash from residential or commercial routes by mechanical means. This position Considers flexibility in the hours in which the driver may be required to put in days work, due to the scheduling and performance of the vehicle. The driver works without any direct supervision both as the responsibility to complete each day's route during the working day. Position will at times require shoveling of trash and debris as well as sweeping or raking waste whenever it is required in the performance of the responsibility of the position. Rating on performance will be analyzed by supervisor according to random checks and customers complaints. Drives and operates gasoline or diesel powered packer trucks with capacity of 10-20 cubic yard (8,450- 9,900 lbs.)new body volume. G.V.W. of 20,500 to 42,000 lbs. Operates devices necessary for proper compaction and disposal of refuse. This involves operating controls with both hands inside and/or outside the packer unit. Performs daily maintenance check on all fluids and working parts of vehicles. Must perform required preventive maintenance. (A detailed job description is Resource Office.)

Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Valid New Mexico driver's license, exceptional driving record. Must be insurable by the City's insurance carrier. Must possess Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Required to drive automobiles, pick-up trucks, dump-trucks, service vehicles, bobcat, back hoe, loader, excavator and packer truck. Some experience in performing heavy manual work.
