Kodiak Island Borough Treatment Plant Operator Trainee in Kodiak, Alaska

The person hired for this position will be responsible for assisting the Lead Treatment Plant Operator in the operation and maintenance of the leachate treatment plant at the landfill while learning all aspects of the facility. This position entails working with a variety of equipment, technology, and chemicals.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Heavy equipment operation and maintenance techniques; Applicable safety practices and work methods; Basic algebra concepts; Modern office equipment.

SKILL IN:

Operating and maintaining applicable heavy equipment; Adhering to safe work practices; Interpreting operating and instruction manuals; Performing algebraic calculations; Performing routine maintenance and repair activities; Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED and two years of heavy equipment operator and maintenance experience, or a combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Licensing/Certifications: State of Alaska Driver's License.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, blood and other bodily fluids, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment.
