UIC Government Services and the Bowhead Family of Companies Welder - UIC Sanatu in Chalkyitsik, Alaska

Overview

UIC Sanatu is an Alaskan Native Owned General and Industrial Mechanical Contractor based in Anchorage, Alaska. We are also a Small Business Administration (SBA) certified Small Disadvantaged Business. UIC Sanatu specializes in the construction and repair of steel tanks, fueling and utility systems. It has successfully completed fuel and utility-related construction projects for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska, Sacramento and Omaha Districts, Naval Facilities Engineering Command and U.S. Coast Guard.

Summary

  • Journeyman level welder-fitter. Project includes repairs and upgrades to an existing horizontal bulk storage tank facility. Will be responsible for fit up and welding of both plate and piping. Other duties as assigned. Experience with occasional heavy equipment operation is a plus.

  • Work location is remote, with expectation of completing works without a rotation. Work will be completed this summer.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Layout, fit, & weld (various pipe diameters and thicknesses) ½” to 4” carbon steel pipe using a GTAW & SMAW procedure.

  • Must be able to perform all weld procedures in the 6G position.

  • Perform pipe preparation duties, including cutting, beveling, and fitting as required.

  • Weld steel plate, steel angle, Unistrut, etc. as required.

  • Assist with concrete forming, trenching, testing, cleanup, and all other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to perform all work safely in accordance with UIC Sanatu’s’s safety procedures and guidelines.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work place.

  • Must be able to pass a back ground check.

  • UIC Sanatu participates in E-Verify.

  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • Must be able to qualify to UIC Sanatu’s GTAW & SMAW weld procedures in the 6G position.

  • Welds may be NDE tested.

  • Must be able to read and interpret construction plans and drawings.

  • Must be able to properly layout and fit pipe, plate, steel angle, and Unistrut.

Must be able to prepare pipe, including cutting and beveling.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • 5 Years Pipefitting Experience.

  • 5 Years Welding Experience with SMAW procedures as related to fuel piping.

  • 2 Years Welding Experience with GTAW procedures as related to fuel piping.

  • 5 Years Experience in Construction Related to Fuel and Energy Systems.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to weld in locations with minimum space.

  • Must be able to meet the physical demands noted below.

  • Operation of motor vehicles.

  • Walking, Standing.

  • Twisting, turning upper body.

  • Twisting, turning arms, legs.

  • Crawling, kneeling, stooping.

  • Safe distant vision.

  • Good near vision.

  • Wear ANSI approved safety footwear.

  • Wear safety glasses.

  • Wear hard hat.

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 100 lbs.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Work will take place in a fuel facility that has ongoing operations while work is underway.

  • Petroleum contaminated soils may be present within the work vicinity.

Temperatures may range from 20 deg F to 80 deg F. All work will take place outside.
