Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking anEnvironmental Engineerto join our team to support our government customer in Carlsbad, NM.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing solutions for the Environmental Monitoring (EM) Structures, Systems and Components (SSCs) at WIPP. The candidate will become the EM system technical expert; maintain configuration management for their assigned SSCs, specifications, drawings, and other technical baseline documentation; and ensure compliance with the Documented Safety Analysis and Hazardous Waste Facility Permit (HWFP). The candidate will be expected to become the technical expert for EM SSCs and qualify as a System Engineer for WIPP systems as assigned by the Engineering Manager. Provide real-time engineering support during repairs to assigned SSCs. Work closely with the permitting group to ensure that facility changes that affect the HWFP are captured early during the pre-modification planning stage. This position requires the ability to perform field work in varied conditions, including indoors, outdoors, surface, and underground.

Exempt Salary Grade (30-34)

Minimum Requirements:These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or related technical/environmental field with two (2) years of related experience.

  • Must be able to read design drawings, be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and work independently or in a team environment.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and guidelines.

  • Knowledge of effluent air monitoring systems for NESHAPs compliance.

  • Experience with low-volume air monitors for particulate samples.

  • Experience with sub atmospheric air sampling systems for VOCs.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Minimum salary $78,719 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate-s relevant experience and education.
