Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.
DEPARTMENT: Information Technology
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm; Rotating on-call schedule
LOCATION: City Hall - 632 W 6th Ave
Example of Duties
Works under the direction of the Infrastructure Manager to support Municipal infrastructure services, compute, storage, network and enterprise applications. Adheres to Information Technology Department policies and procedures to support and provision services in a secure and standard manner. Provides technical consultation and support to users and other IT staff. Leads technical projects and resources to achieve high-complexity solutions. Diagnoses, isolates, and debugs software problems, and performs problem resolution. Monitors systems capacity and performance and provides complex technical support. Reviews, advises and designs standard software and hardware builds, system options, risks, costs vs. benefits and impact on the enterprise business process and goals. Develops and documents the framework for integration and implementation for changes to technical standards. Tracks industry trends and maintains knowledge of new technologies to better serve the enterprise's architecture needs. Perform other assigned duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
Education
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and nine (9) years of experience in the field related to the position.
OR
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or similar discipline, and seven (7) years of experience in the field related to the position.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or similar discipline, and five (5) years of experience in the field related to the position.
OR
Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required non-specialized experience on a year-for-year basis
License / Background Check
Valid State of Alaska driver's license.
Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within 30 days of hire.
Preferences
VMware VCA-DCV or higher.
NetApp Certified Storage Associate or higher.
Server administration experience with Microsoft System Center technologies (SCCM, SCOM, SCVMM).
Server administration experience with Windows PowerShell.
Experience with performing physical to virtual (P2V) conversions on Windows Servers into VMware environment a plus.
Experience in the design and management of a Microsoft based Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to provide certificate services.
Experience with Microsoft SQL databases.
Microsoft Certification in server technologies (MCP, MCSA, or MCSE), NetApp Certified Storage Associate or higher.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. Military Service Interview Preference
Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
