Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive Opportunity:Possession of a license and current registration as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in New York State and one year of post-licensure social work experience. OR Possession of a license and current registration as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York State.Professional social work experience involves activities such as screening, assessing and diagnosing individuals' and families' psychosocial needs, strengths and limitations; participating in the development of treatment plans and discharge plans; counseling and educating individuals, groups and families to promote mental, emotional, physical and social functioning; helping access needed services; providing client/patient advocacy and crisis intervention; and developing, coordinating and evaluating services and support systems. Experience limited to social work research or social work administration is NOT considered qualifying.Transfer Opportunity:Candidates must have permanent service as a Licensed Master Social Worker 2, Grade 20, and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of the Grade 20 level.

Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Licensed Master Social Worker 2, Grade 20, position in the Division of Forensic Services (DFS), Bureau of Sex Offender Evaluation and Community Treatment, Strict and Intensive Supervision and Treatment Unit (SIST). As a result of MHL Article 10, the Bureau is responsible for coordinating and conducting the multi-disciplinary risk assessment and clinical review of individuals who have been convicted of a qualifying sex offense and who are approaching the end of their criminal sentence to assist in determining whether civil management is appropriate. The Bureau also oversees and monitors the implementation of programs to manage the treatment of individuals who are released to strict and intensive community supervision and treatment as a result of the Article 10 process.Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to, the following: Review records and treatment histories, develop discharge plans, formulate multi-service community treatment plans, manage multi-agency case conference calls, manage and oversee a caseload of high-risk sex offenders court order to treatment in the community, facilitate team meetings involving SIST Parole Officers and community treatment providers, enter sensitive information into bureau data systems, review multi-disciplinary treatment progress reports, contribute to the development of unit policy and procedure, and supply information for bureau management, as requested. The incumbent will work as part of a clinical team and will interface with community treatment providers, staff at OMH, Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Office of the Attorney General and other State and local agency personnel.

Additional Comments The starting salary for this position is $69,934. For current New York State employees, salary is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. This position leads to a maximum salary of $88,721 based on annual performance advances. The Division of Forensic Services is conveniently located in independent offices on the grounds of the Capital District PC at 75 New Scotland Avenue, Albany, New York. Guaranteed covered parking with exclusive employee entrance to office areas is available for $5/month.Specific scheduled hours and telecommuting availability for this position will be discussed during the interview process.
